Is Hand Sanitizer Dangerous To Use?
Hand sanitizer can come in many forms from many different companies. It is an antiseptic gel, soap, or foam that is often used in place of washing one’s hands with regular soap and water. Most contain some form of alcohol which helps kill more germs than soap and water might do. Alcohol is also not a base, as soap is, so alcohol will not dry out your hands as much.
Its convenience is one of the major selling points. Because some bottles can be manufactured so small, people can easily carry a bottle around in their pockets with them. It is great for emergencies when you can not easily find a sink. The problem with its convenience is that some people use it too much, after every time they open a door or touch anything they do not know the personal history of.
Many companies enforce employees using hand sanitizer whenever they open the door or go to the bathroom. This helps reduce fewer sick employees during cold and flu season. This can keep productivity from dragging in the winter and improve morale all around. It is often difficult, especially in a shared office space, to keep a cold from circulating many times.
The product is not without debate, however. One side of the opposition is firmly against it on the grounds that soap and water does the job better. The truth of the matter boils down to this: sanitizers can work better than soap and water if they are used correctly.
If you are one who just puts a small drop on your hand and rubs the sanitizer around in your palm, you may as well not even be washing your hands. Hot water and soap would work better in this instance because the hot water would get all over your hands, not just in one are. Sanitizers should be used correctly, meaning they should be applied everywhere, especially in the nooks and crannies of your hands and nail bed, even on the backs of your hands and down to your wrists.
There is another anti-sanitizer campaign regarding it being too effective at killing germs. Most kill exactly what they advertise they kill: 99.9 percent of bacteria. But this can be surprisingly detrimental to your health. People need a small amount of bacteria in order for their immune system to guard properly against it. If you go without certain bacteria for long periods of time, it can make you very sick when you finally encounter it again.
One must also consider the . 01 percent of germs that live on after the others are dead. By surviving, they have encountered the sanitizer and built up their own immunity to it. Scientists think you can then build super-bacteria which are much stronger and very resistant to being killed off. You should have a healthy medium, then. Use sanitizers when you cannot get to a sink, but wash your hands very well when you can.
You can also combine your health care with a skin care regimen. Many companies have started putting lotion products in sanitizers or sanitizers in their lotions. It is a great way to do two things at once.
Germs spread easy and that is why we teach our child to use hand sanitizer. Hand cleaner is important to both adults and child and most of all, it does not that much money.
